Small changes, big shifts

“Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become.” – James Clear, Atomic Habits.

It’s a simple idea, but one that offers a gentler perspective on what real progress looks like. Growth doesn’t always mean doing more — it means doing the right things, in small, intentional steps that build confidence and momentum. When you’re in business for yourself, those small votes add up to trust: not just from your audience, but from yourself.

I’ve been thinking about this recently while working with a client, Lucy — an experienced yoga teacher with decades of practice, a busy mum, and big ambitions to evolve her work into teacher training and mentorship. She had the skill, the wisdom, the passion. But between the classes, the toddler schedules, and the endless to-do list, her dreams were becoming tangled — a web of good intentions without the time or structure to move them forward.

Our work together wasn’t about overhauling everything overnight. It was about finding the first step — the smallest, simplest change that would make the biggest difference. For Lucy, that started with clarifying her voice: defining her values, mission, and teaching philosophy so her message finally reflected the depth of what she offered. We reviewed her website, created a clear and actionable checklist, and aligned every page with her new positioning. We built the scaffolding for her brand, one piece at a time — so she could relaunch her online class, promote one live event for this autumn season, and start speaking to her community with renewed confidence.

Layer by layer, she’s creating foundations strong enough to support the next stage of her growth. That’s the essence of what I call micro-growth — the practice of breaking big visions into small, meaningful moves that nudge your business forward, one piece at a time. You don’t have to rebuild the whole house; you just need to start with the next brick that matters most.

Whether it’s refining a single sentence on your homepage, introducing a new class, or finally tracking that one metric that tells you how you’re really doing — each small act is proof that you’re moving. Momentum builds. Confidence compounds. And those micro steps, taken consistently, lead to the biggest, most sustainable shifts of all.

Please get in touch if you’d like support in building or strengthening your own foundations.
